Benzina Sprint at Jizerska 50 Lures Participants with almost Half a Million in Prize Money

The Friday programme of the 53^rd edition of the ČEZ Jizerská 50 race has a new feature. It is not a new race, but the already existing race now has a great new attraction. The traditional Friday sprint is now enticing new participants with awards of over CZK 100,000 for the winner.

As of 2020, the race is named Benzina Sprint and the fastest skiers will take home prizes of tens of thousands of crowns. “We have increased the prize money for the best sprinters. The first six women and men will receive a sum totalling almost 500,000 crowns,” says Pavel Kaidl, the spokesperson for Benzina, the new main partner of Jizerská 50.

 “We are gender equal, so the first woman and man will receive the same prize money, that is 100,000 Czech crowns. Equal awards are prepared for participants on other positions too. The fastest six competitors of both genders will be awarded,” continues Kaidl. Until now the award for the best skiers was 15 thousand CZK.

 The higher prize money is an ideal invitation not only for Czech elite skiers. “I’ll be happy to take part in the sprint. The cash prize is very interesting,” says Jan Šrail, currently the best Czech skier in the Visma Ski Classics series and member of the eD system Bauer Team.

 Jiří Ročánek, skiing for Vltava Fund Ski Team, also thinks the high financial prize will be an invitation for the world elite skiers. “The money is close to the main Sunday 50-km race. I’m sure such an award will lure the best in the field.”

 The Benzina Sprint race takes place on Friday, 7^th February 2020, i.e. on the first day of the 53^rd edition of ČEZ Jizerská 50. The Czech Television Sports channel will broadcast the finals live. Registration for the race is open at www.sportid.cz.
