The memory of the mountaineers: Each participant of Jizerska 50 will receive a unique medal

Each racer of 53^rd. Jizerska 50 will not only receive a classic medal, which is a common part of the race, but also the unique commemorative medal from Czech mint that will remember us to a sad 50^th anniversary of a tragedy, which happened at Huascaran in 1970.

A limited edition of the medals according to the design of a famous medallist and an academic sculptor Jiří Dostál, will be including the names of all the mountaineers, who had died under the mountain Huascaran.

Everybody, who will race in 53^rd. Jizerska 50, will take from Bedřichov together with an amazing sport experience also this unique medal. “It is a special thing according to a special year of the race,” said spokesperson of the race Richard Valoušek. “We remember all the members of the expedition every year. Next year, we will appeal for the memory even more, it is a big sad anniversary ahead us. We are happy that Czech mint supported us. I have seen the medals with my own eyes, and they look really amazing.” added.

The commemorative medal will also be received by important guests including residuary of the members of the expedition. “We are preparing special medals for the families of the members. Medals are of the weight of the pure silver troy ounce, numbered on the edge and numbered in blister, where on the reverse we will introduce the story of the tragedy of the year 1970,” said Lenka Klimentová from Chzech mint. The special medals will be delivered to the residuary in an alphabet order in the evening of the February race, which starts 7.2.2019 at Bedřichov .

The same medals, but without the numbering will receive the winners on the first three places of the main race. “Unfortunately, the medals are not for sale, what are the sad news for the collectors, but it increases the attractivity of the medals,” added Klimentová.

Another reasons, why you should join us at Jizerska 50. It doesn’t have to be immediately the main race. You can choose out of the shorter races as well.
