Cancelling the 57th edition of the ČEZ Jizerská 50 was not an easy decision for the organisers. Unfortunately, because of the lack of snow there was no other option. That is why a new option is being prepared for this winter, the so-called PLAN B, which would mean the race could be held even if the snow conditions are not perfect.
If there is not enough snow at lower altitudes and in problematic places (e.g. Krásná Máří) at the time of the 58th edition (6-9 February 2025) of the Jizerská 50, the PLAN B version will offer a solution that will preserve the unique atmosphere and the sporting spirit of the event. As the feedback from last year shows, the vast majority of participants would have liked to see at least a partial version of the race when the conditions were not sufficient for a full one.
The organisers have consulted possible options with experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and the Jizerská OPS plus they have asked specialists in transportation issues. The biggest problem is the necessity to have two routes from Bedřichov to the upper sections and back, because it is not possible to return to the finish by the same route as the one going up since competitors might collide on the way.
In the end, there is only one logistically and economically feasible option with the start in Smědava and the finish at the stadium in Bedřichov. Participants will have access to comfortable facilities and refreshments there, they will get a traditional medal and will be able to use a wide range of services from the event partners. If necessary, the race routes will be adjusted according to the snow situation while the length of the course will be preserved as much as possible.
This would apply to all races with the exception of the Mini Jizerská, T-Mobile Relay Race and ORLEN Sprint.
Race participants would go to Hejnice by arranged buses from Liberec, by car or by train, with trains available only according to the valid timetable. In order to get to Smědava participants would have to use shuttle buses as the parking capacity near the start is limited. Even if this emergency option was in place, all the services for the participants would be provided.
Thanks to the snow insurance, which continues to cover 70% of the basic entry fee, all participants of Jizerská 50 can rest assured. The insurance is now even more advantageous, because it covers not only the cancellation of the whole event, but also of individual races, which ensures greater flexibility and protection for the participants. The organisers will strive to provide the event in the format and quality that the competitors are used to. However, if the snow conditions make the traditional format impossible, a contingency option has been prepared which, despite some modifications, will allow skiers to experience the magic and the unique atmosphere of this legendary event.
