ČEZ JIZERSKÁ 50

Just like every year, we will support the story of a specific child as part of the ČEZ Jizerská 50. In cooperation with the NROS Foundation, we support the Help the Children fundraising for two little girls, Karolínka and Rozárka. The prematurely born twins suffered a massive brain haemorrhage and they have been fighting the consequences to this day. Thanks to your contribution as part of the race registration in the sportID system, their fight could be more successful and their lives happier.
You can support the twins either by registering for the 58th ČEZ Jizerská 50 in the sportID system. The funds raised will be used to pay for personal assistance in a special school and neurorehabilitation through Nadace rozvoje občanské společnosti - Pomozte dětem (the Civil Society Development Foundation – Help the Children fund). Girls, fingers crossed for you!
Leona Pavcová and her husband Karel are the parents of two wonderful girls, identical twins – Karolínka and Rozárka. Unfortunately, the identical twins wanted to see the world sooner than planned. They were born prematurely at 29 weeks by an acute c-section, although the pregnancy had been completely normal and fine up to that point. The average gestation period is 40 weeks, which is about two and a half months longer. Premature Karolínka and Rozárka are now almost 8 and a half years old and the whole situation has unfortunately left serious consequences for them. However, they were lucky despite their misfortune because their parents, Leona and Karel, will never give up in their efforts to provide them with a dignified full life.
Although the whole family’s life was turned upside down, even that hasn’t stopped them from continuing to enjoy it as much as they can. The girls love going on trips, exploring new places, geocaching or just walking outside. In short, the whole family enjoys being able to do things and remains optimistic. The fact is that after the premature birth and several complications, the twins remain dependent on their parents and their treatment is very expensive.
A few days after their premature birth, Karolínka and Rozárka suffered a massive brain haemorrhage and what the doctors said at the time was difficult for the loving parents to absorb: spastic cerebral palsy. Karolínka has three limbs damaged, Rozárka all four. To make matters worse, they also have to deal with epilepsy (West’s syndrome), where seizures cause irreversible brain damage. At the same time, their entire psychomotor development is significantly delayed. But even this bitter cocktail of mishaps hasn’t put Leona and Karel down and they both look forward to a better tomorrow and never stop hoping that their girls’ condition will improve. Until then, they laugh at life as much as they can.
Unfortunately, the doctors’ prognosis is not at all optimistic, but the parents are not giving up. They exercise regularly with the girls and have weekly intensive hippotherapy and intensive neurorehabilitation sessions with them several times a year. Since February 2024, Karolínka and Rozárka have been attending a special school where they receive rehabilitation, occupational therapy and, weather permitting, hippotherapy as part of their education. All these activities are a great hope for Leona and Karel that the consequences of the large brain haemorrhage will be eliminated and they will be able to refute the negative prognoses of the doctors.
They have heard many of those over the last 8 years. Diagnoses, negative prognoses that the girls will never be independent, will never walk and if they do, they will only walk a few steps and with the help of a walker or other aids. That’s just an example of what the whole family has to go through every day. However, Leona, like a good mother, keeps telling herself that hope never dies, and she believes in her girls. In short, she and Karel do everything they can for them.
Still, modern medicine costs a lot, more than a lot of money. Nevertheless, the parents do not give up and want to give Karolínka and Rozárka the best chance at a normal life, so that they can enjoy the most precious gift there is: health. That’s why they are asking for help from you, the participants of Jizerská 50, who have managed to help many children, so that their story could have a happy ending.
The parents will use part of the money raised to pay for personal assistance at the special school and part of it will be used for neurorehabilitation. You too can contribute by registering in the sportID system.
