On Saturday 3rd February the decisive measurement of the snow cover took place on the Jizerská 50 trails. The result of the measurements and the even more pessimistic and at the same time more certain weather forecast for the coming week makes it clear now that the race cannot be organized even in the shortened version and the whole event including possible alternative versions of the main race have to be cancelled. Participants will receive 70% of the basic race fee thanks to PVZP insurance. The accompanying programme in the form of the ČEZ Energy Fests in Jablonec and Liberec and the 1970 Peru Expedition memorial will take place regardless of the circumstances.
After yesterday’s pessimistic weather forecast, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has had even worse news for the organizers of the 57th ČEZ Jizerská 50 today. In Bedřichov, a warm and rainy weekend will be followed by an even warmer start to the week, when temperatures could hit the 10C mark. The chances of at least a cooler spell at higher altitudes are very slim and, moreover, it is very likely that up to 35-40 mm of rain will fall in the area by Monday evening alone.
Until the very last moment the organizers were looking at options to have the race on a shortened course. They considered all possible alternatives, including the possibility of starting and finishing at higher altitudes or in the eastern part of the Jizerské Mountains, where the snow situation is a bit better. However, none of these options is likely to be possible due to the forecasted extremely warm weather. Temperatures well above freezing are expected to continue even during the Jizerská 50 long weekend.
After today’s thorough measurements, it was officially confirmed that up to 70% of the basic race fee will be refunded to all participants of the 10, 17, 25, 30 and 50 km races thanks to the insurance from PVZP. All competitors will be informed of the details next week. This insurance does not cover the MINI Jizerská PVZP children’s races and the elite ORLEN Sprint race. However, children as well as adults will be able to pick up their race package at the INTERSPORT shop in OC NISA Liberec on Friday 9th February from 12:00-8:00 pm and on Saturday 10th February from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. After this date, it not be possible to collect the package and it cannot sent.
The accompanying program in the form of two ČEZ Energy Fest concerts in Jablonec nad Nisou and Liberec will still take place. If you want you can come to see the band Poletíme?, Pokáč or Ewa Farna for free. The tribute to the mountaineers from the 1970 Peru expedition will also take place, but will be moved to Sunday 11th February at 10:00 am at the stadium in Bedřichov.
The organizing committee of the 57th ČEZ Jizerská 50 would like thank all registered skiers for their understanding, all the race partners for their support in this difficult situation and all the organizers for their extreme commitment to fighting the thaw and they hope to see them on the trails either at other ČEZ SkiTour series races or next year at the 58th Jizerská 50. You can find the latest information at www.jiz50.cz and on the Jizerská 50 social networks.
