On skis in winter, on foot in summer. The legendary winter race is still far away, but the beauties of the unique nature of the Jizera Mountains can be enjoyed in summer, too. That is why, on 31 August, we will stage the Jizerská 50 RUN, a running event in Bedřichov, as part of the Běhej lesy series and as the summer counterpart to our renowned ski race. Still unsure whether to run in summer, too? Below are a few reasons why you should run the trail of this unique cross-country ski race. The ultramarathon is already fully booked, but you can still run the 12 km and 23 km tracks. Sign up here!
Jizerská 50 is a traditional cross-country ski race that sees the participation of the biggest stars as well as amateurs of cross-country skiing. The summer version of this classic winter event allows you to see iconic locales in the Jizera Mountains from a different perspective: this time they won't be covered in snow. Pass the time left until the winter Jizerská 50 and explore its tracks on the last weekend in August.
The Jizera Mountains boast of endless forests and beautiful views. Urban dwellers in particular are sure to enjoy the fresh air of the nature preserve instead of smog and exhaust fumes. In winter, there thousands of cross-country skiers use these vast tracks in both directions; without snow, they can be enjoyed on foot. Here there is no scuffling or dangerous overtaking: everyone can run at their own pace without obstructing anyone else or slowing them down. Even though the run takes place in the mountains, there is no need to worry about demanding terrains and trails. Whether you want to take a light jog or push your limits, Jizerská 50 is sure to please everyone. If you want to try out an easy trail suitable even for beginners, then look no further – the 12 km run is just for you. If you want to take a challenging run and see the best the Jizera Mountains have to offer, the 23 km trail is sure to enthuse you. For those who fear nothing, the 50 km ultramarathon leads all the way to Jizerská. However, this run is already sold out.
There is a highway all the way to Liberec; from Prague to Bedřichov, for instance, it is only a 90-minute journey. You can also take public transport. There are regular bus lines from Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou. The ride takes 30 minutes. If you come from afar, you can look forward to enjoying a nice weekend in the Jizera Mountains.
The 12 km run has four refreshment stations for runners, whilst the 23 km run has five and the 50 km ultramarathon eleven, including one at the finish line. The facilities in the area offer other forms of refreshments; in the Birell tent, for example, you can refresh yourself with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is the opportunity to be professionally taped both prior to and after the run. Upon finishing, each runner will receive a beautiful wooden medallion and an SMS with your time and result. There will also be photos of you from the run and a free-to-download certificate. In a raffle following the run, you'll have a chance to win a Scott mountain bike.
Not even the youngest of runners are left out. Children under 15 can run in 500 m and 1 km races. The winners can look forward to nice prizes. It would be a shame to drop by Bedřichov just for a run. The Jizera Mountains offer many leisure activities, enough to fill up an entire week. What about climbing the Královka observation tower, located less than 2 km from the Bedřichov stadium? In Bedřichov itself there is a rope park. And you simply must visit iQLANDIA, the zoo, or the botanical garden in Liberec. If you are a fan of glass and jewellery, Jablonec is the place for you. Taking part in the Běhej lesy series in Jizerská sounds like a good way of saying goodbye to the summer holidays, doesn’t it? :)
Some may like to run just for themselves, but for others, fun shared is fun doubled. Get a group of friends together, build a team and with your joined forces, try to spend as much time on the track as possible. Those are the simple rules of the Slow Motion category. The rule is that the larger the team, the larger the chance of winning! Mixed pairs can take part in the Tandem category under the condition that one of the members runs 12 km and the other 23 km.
On top of that, there is yet another unique contest – become the King or Queen of the Jizera Mountains! This premium scoring contest counts in both your results from the winter Jizerská 50 as well as from the Jizerská 50 RUN in one year. The scoring system takes into account the length of the run, the number of participants (men and women separately) of the run, and the placings according to sex.
