Friday's 30 km free technique race is a starter of the main events at the Jizerská 50 and invites to the famous names. One of these is Ondřej Synek, three-time Olympic medalist and five-time world champion in rowing, who will start at the Volkswagen Bedřichovská 30 race for the second time. „For me, the race is about a tremendous tradition and respect,“ says the Czech rowing legend.
He will try the a thirty-kilometer race for the second time in his life. „I would like to participate every year, but I have some health issues. Last year, unfortunately, it did not work because I had sick children. If everything will go well, I will compete this year and I will be happy to return again for another year as well,“ Synek said.
He likes to remember to his premiere start, even though his ski wasn’t in the best condition. „I had badly lubricated, it was just about the strength up the hill, and down the hill my ski didn’t go. The others were slightly overtaking me. But I take it, this things can happen.“
And why did he choose free style skating techniques instead of classics? „I have a closer relationship to this style, I enjoy it more. I have to say that racing is really fun for me, so just hang on and get back to the start.“
The question is whether Ondřej Synek is really going to compete or just go to the finish. „I'm not a type who is shaking when it's not on the podium. I have a different sport for that. But I definitely don’t want to end the last one,“ concludes Synek and looks forward to the start on Friday February 8.
