Jizerská 50 expects historic milestone: 200,000. Will you register this year?

You would search in vain in the Czech Republic for a race that achieves such international renown. That is why thousands of cross-country skiers from not only the Czech Republic, but literally from the whole world stand at its starting line every year. There are even participants from exotic locales such as Cape Verde, the Philippine and India who have already registered for the next edition of the event, which is attracting racers with the most affordable starting fee until the end of September.

It may seem that a race with a tradition dating back more than fifty years has nothing more to prove. However, the opposite is true. The largest number of cross-country skiers in the race’s history, specifically 7,289, took part in the 51st edition of the race. This was helped by the fact that we made races accessible to literally everyone. People can register for races on 10, 25, 30 and 50 km trails. We are thus taking complete beginners and families with children into consideration.

183,273! We published this figure after the 50th edition. That is the number of people who have participated in the races in the Jizera Mountains since the Jizerská 50 was established in 1968, when it was run for the first time. When we add in the record number of racers from this year, we come to more than 190,000.  So now the obvious question is, when will we reach the milestone of 200,000 participants in the famous Jizerská 50?

That probably will not happen in the 52nd edition of the race, but it will definitely happen in the following year, when we again expect a record level of participation. This year we had a few hundred open places at the starting line, and we believe that we will fill those this time around.  Because the races take place over the course of three days, there is no danger that the Jizera Mountains will be overrun. Everything is done in accordance with the principles of environmental protection.

The 52nd ČEZ Jizerská 50 will take place from 8 to 10 February 2019. Nearly 3,000 cross-country skiers of all skill levels have already registered for the event. If you want to save on the starting fee, register by the end of September, while registration is available for the lowest price.
