The fiftieth anniversary of the famous race, a new February date, starting-fee insurance and an expanded accompanying programme are the biggest attractions of the upcoming edition of the legendary ČEZ Jizerská 50, in which seven thousand racers from more than 30 countries participate annually. Registration in the races to be held over the jubilee weekend is ongoing at www.jiz50.cz.
The discounted starting fee is valid only until the end of the year and, at this time, only a quarter of the starting numbers remain available.
The legendary ČEZ Jizerská 50 cross-country ski race will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary on 17-19 February 2017. To mark the occasion, the organisers are preparing numerous new features and an expanded accompanying programme, which will recall not only the fifty-year history of the race, but will also commemorate the Peru 1970 Expedition and the tragic loss of the fifteen mountain climbers in whose honour the race is held every year.
“There will be only one fiftieth fifty, so we are preparing several surprises for the racers and an expanded programme not only for the weekend of the race. Fans of the Jizerská 50 can now visit an exhibition about the fiftieth anniversary of the race in Jablonec nad Nisou; we are preparing a book about the Jizerská 50 and, in cooperation with Czech Television, a documentary on the history of the Jizerská 50 will be produced,” says David Douša of the ČEZ Jizerská 50 organising team. “In order to make the racers happy, we have prepared for every participant a starting pack containing a functional cap and a Jizerská 50 calendar, as well as a crystal medal at the finish.”
Not only personalities from the world of cross-country skiing will be present at the start of the jubilee edition of the race. In addition to Lukáš Bauer, who announced the end of his professional career this year, and Kateřina Smutná, who will again race under the flag of the Czech Republic, the start will also feature Eva Nývltová, a former cross-country skier and participant in the Summer Olympics in Rio. The event will also be attended by leading Czech dentist Roman Šmucler, mountain climber Radek Jaroš and cardiac surgeon Jan Pirk.
The ČEZ Jizerská 50 is not only about the main 50-kilometre race, as it will also feature other, shorter races throughout the weekend, including classic and freestyle events, while families with children and company teams will enjoy the relay races. The Pojišťovna VZP Mini Jizerská will take place on Friday morning; the Volkswagen Bedřichovská 30 will start one hour after noon, followed by the 1.5- kilometre sprint in the early evening. Saturday morning is reserved for the Hervis Jizerská 25 and the ČT Jizerská 10, with the afternoon set aside for company relays. The main ČEZ Jizerská 50 race will take place on 19 February 2017.
Starting numbers for the fiftieth edition of the Jizerská 50 are going fast, so don’t wait to sign up and register as soon as possible. With only two months left before the start, only a quarter of the starting numbers still remain. It is possible to register at www.jiz50.cz and at Hervis shops with a 10% discount. You can still get the lowest starting fee until the end of the year.
