That’s a nice one! Lots of sunshine, enough snow, ideal weather conditions, record numbers of hobby skiers and the world elite including two-times Olympic winner Petter Northug at the starting line. The memories of ČEZ Jizerská 50 were already etched in the minds of all participants in February, but now the name of the race has also been written in the history of world cross-country skiing as it won the title of the Best Event of the Year of the Visma Ski Classics series.
The ranking is voted by people from the series’ backstage, but also by members of individual teams and elite skiers themselves. It is a deserved victory as the overall winner Norwegian Andreas Nygaard confirms. “Jizerská 50 was fantastic this year. I enjoyed the race and I like to think back to it. The victory is well deserved, it was the most beautiful race for me too, and not only this year, but of my whole career,” says the Norwegian skier, who dominated the Jizerská race this year in a close finish, enthusiastically.
In the poll, the 53rd year of the most important Czech winter event outshined the legendary Swedish Vasaloppet and Italian Marcialonga. “That’s why we really appreciate this award. It’s a reward for the work everyone put into the preparation of the race,” says David Douša on behalf of the team of organisers and the marketing agency RAUL.
This is the best invitation for next year’s Jizerská 50. It will take place on the weekend of February 12 – 14, 2021 and the registrations will open in the coming weeks at www.jiz50.cz.
