Preparations for ČEZ Jizerská 50 are in full swing, with an alternative programme in reserve

In less than a month the 48th ČEZ Jizerská 50 will start, with almost 7,000 competitors on the starting line. Preparations for the weekend-long Jizerská 50 are in full swing, the organizers are making artificial snow, if there are not appropriate conditions, and are waiting for natural snow. They have an alternative programme in reserve if the weather is not good for skiing. The final form of Jizerská 50 will be decided on 4 January 2015.

“In Bedřichov at sub-zero temperatures we are making artificial snow to be used at the stadium and in the opening kilometres of Jizerská 50. In December 2013 the weather was not good at all and we could not make snow, this year the conditions were better and moreover, we managed in cooperation with Jizerská o.p.s. Bedřichov and the municipality of Bedřichov to increase the production capacity of snow, “said Martin Koucký, Secretary of Skiklub Jizerská 50.

The Jizera Mountains are not covered with snow at the moment and the above-average temperatures will remain until Christmas, according to the meteorologists. The weather forecast promises a drop in temperature and heavy rainfall in the week from 29 December 2014 until mid-January.

“We have almost a month to go before the Jizerská 50 race and the preparations are in full swing regardless of the weather. We believe that nature will show us its friendly face and will prepare for us and with our help for the athletes a great race. After the recent experiences we are working with an alternative programme just in case there’s no snow. We will announce its concrete form and the conditions on 5 January 2015,”said Martin Koucký.

In the event that the Jizera Mountains suffers from a similar lack of snow as in 2014, the organizers have prepared for the same dates a backup plan, which envisages the race and the accompanying programme to the maximum extent depending on the amount of snow.

“In this case there will be for all the competitors a service package starting from starting packs and timekeeping and refreshments to commemorative badges and diplomas. Will do everything we can to offer to the  competitors the most valuable programme as we have paid most of the costs incurred in the organization of Jizerská 50. Rescheduling the race which we once considered is out of the question,” added Martin Koucký.
