ČEZ Jizerská 50 adding a new race: 1.5 kilometre double-poling sprint

The 48th ČEZ Jizerská 50, which will take place in Bedřichov in the Jizera Mountains, is being expanded with the addition of a new race. During the Friday programme, racers will compete in a double-poling sprint on a 1.5 km circuit. The appeal of the new Nyč Sport Sprint is enhanced by the fact that it will take place under artificial lighting. A total of CZK 35,000 in prize money will be divided among the top sprinters. The race’s capacity is limited to 200 skiers.

The double-poling sprint, which is a standard element of long-distance cross-country skiing, is a further expansion of the plentiful programme of the ČEZ Jizerská 50 weekend. At the same time, it is a unique two-round event. Racers from the ranks of both enthusiasts and elite skiers must first compete in a qualifying round, in which they will start in pairs at 15-second intervals. The fastest 20 men and ten women will then face each other in the final round.

“We try to enhance the Jizerská 50 programme every year, to bring in attractive new aspects for our racers and, at the same time, to maintain the tradition of the event. The evening sprint fulfils these parameters and brings another interesting measure of the strengths between professional skiers and hobbyists,” explains David Douša of the Jizerská 50 organising team. “Thanks to the interesting qualification system, where racers will start in pairs at 15-second intervals, and the joint final, the sprint will also bring in spectators.”

Race qualification starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the final at 5:45 p.m. Friday evening was selected for a reason. “We wanted to attract to the sprint, in which total prize money in the amount of CZK 35,000 will be awarded, not only amateur skiers, but also the biggest stars of the Jizerská 50 and the Swix Ski Classics series, who will focus on the main race on Saturday,” adds David Douša.

The number of starting places is limited to 200 sprinters. The starting fee is CZK 250 when paid in advance or CZK 350 at the venue, provided that the event is not already sold out. You can register for the Nyč Sport Sprint at www.jiz50.cz/cs/registrace.
